2024 Summer Involvement Opportunities in Isla Vista

Are you staying for the magical summer months in Isla Vista? It’s the perfect time to give back to your community while enjoying the backdrop of beautiful scenery in our oceanside home! Here are some ways you can get involved and give back to your community this summer: 

Community Cleanup Days with IVCSD

Help us clean up litter in Isla Vista and earn community service hours! Yerbas, music, and sunscreen will be provided

  • Every Tuesday (8/13, 8/20, 8/27, 9/3, 9/10)
  • 11am - 2pm, but feel free to drop in whenever you would like!
  • Meet at the IV Community Room: 970 Embarcadero Del Mar
  • Please bring: closed toed shoes, sunglasses, and a hat

Volunteer with UCSB's  Edible Campus Program (UCSB ECP)

UCSB’s Edible Campus Program (UCSBECP) is looking for consistent, weekly volunteers to help water Isla Vista’s Community Gardens according to their own availability throughout the summer.

Additionally, UCSBECP will be hosting “Saturday Morning Live” volunteer days every Saturday morning from 10:30am-1:30pm. Community members can stop by the commmunity gardens, learn some new gardening skills, and take home some fresh produce!

Volunteer with Saint George Youth Center (SGYC)

Saint George Youth Center (SGYC) is seeking volunteers to support with their summer programming that serves local teens and youth in Isla Vista

Volunteer with Standing Together to End Sexual Assault (STESA)

Attend a 60-hour Crisis Intervention Training to start volunteering with Standing Together to End Sexual Assault (STESA). The training prepares volunteers to provide trauma informed care to survivors and their significant others on STESA’s 24-hour hotline. Through this training people will learn how to provide emotional support to survivors, provide survivors legal and medical options, learn how to advocate for survivors in legal and medical settings, and learn about the root causes of sexual assault.

Trainings are available from 7/9 - 9/6 on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 5:30pm - 9pm

Community Spaces Summer Cleaning with IVCSD

Do you love organizing spaces that are not your own? Us too! Come organize our community spaces with us over music and free lunch! We will be giving away free items we no longer need in our spaces!

IVCSD Community Art Projects

Help us beautify IVCSD’s outdoor spaces! We will be painting our parking spots and picnic benches outside of the IV Community Center, 976 Embarcadero Del Mar. IVCSD will supply all of the necessary art materials - there will be spaces for guided paint by number and for free-painting

IVCSD provides a variety of free programs that will be running all summer long! These programs are completely free and open to anyone - no need to sign up, just stop by!

  • Dance Lessons - Thursdays, 6:30pm, at the Community Center: 976 Embarcadero Del Mar
  • Madre a Madre - a bilingual mothers’ group meeting biweekly on Mondays at 6pm in the Community Room: 970 Embarcadero Del Mar
  • Free Lunches - Tuesdays at 11am at the Community Center: 976 Embarcadero Del Mar
