As you start to get used to our beautiful oceanside home, it’s time to start thinking about how to make more sustainable choices. Why? It’s part of who we are as Isla Vistans! We care about the environment and we have fun doing it. Did you know Earth Day started here? AND UCSB had the first ever Environmental Studies department? Yeah, our roots in environmentalism run deep. In this guide, we'll show you how to seamlessly integrate eco-friendly practices into your move-in process and daily life. Plus, we’ll talk about how we can help as your local government- the Isla Vista Community Services District (IVCSD).

Our Move-In Magazine contains useful tips about:

• Caring for and mainatain the belongings you already own, lessening the need to buy new ones
• Using public and active transportation in IV
• Making sustaible purchases, whether that means shopping at local farmers markets or buying in bulk
• Repurposing items that would otherwise be thrown away, like using finished jam jars as cups or vases
• Setting up your house to be as sustainable as possible by having conversations with your housemates about where to store reusable grocery bags, whether you would like to compost as a household, etc
