What is IVCSD's Annual Move-in Sale?
Each year, hundreds of Isla Vista residents move out in mid-June when leases end with the academic year. This chaotic period involves final exams, farewells, graduation celebrations, and family visits, leaving many residents too busy to move out properly. Consequently, many items are thrown away rather than packed or donated.
To reduce waste during move-out, UCSB hosts the annual GIVE Benefit Sale. The GIVE Sale provides convenient drop-off locations throughout IV, making it easier for residents to donate items instead of discarding them.
After collecting and sorting donations, the GIVE Sale sells the items back to the public at affordable prices, with 100% of the proceeds going to local Isla Vista charities. Unsold items are collected by the IVCSD and made available again during the Annual Move-In Sale in September, when students return and need to refurnish their apartments.
The GIVE Sale and Move-In Sale are part of our community's effort to reduce waste by providing free and convenient resources that ease the move-out process and keep items out of the landfill by recirculating them within our community.
