Whether you're new to local governance or have some experience, this course will provide you with the skills, knowledge, and resources to make a real impact in your community.

The advocacy, governance, and community engagement skills you'll gain are universally applicable and can be carried with you wherever you go, whether you remain in Isla Vista or move on to a new town or city. As you embark on new journeys, you’ll be empowered to make a positive impact in any local setting—helping to strengthen neighborhoods, advocate for environmental and social justice, and create meaningful, lasting change.
Important Dates for the Civic Leaders Initiative (CLI)
We are excited to launch the Civic Leaders Initiative (CLI) in January 2025! Classes are held Thursdays, from 6pm-7pm, with the exception of the first and last class both being 90 minutes.. Here are the key dates you need to know:

Who can take the Civic Leaders Initiative Course?
Anyone can join IVCSD's Civic Leaders Initiative course! You do NOT need to be a student at UCSB, SBCC, or any other institution to participate. This course offers valuable skills anyone can use to advocate for change in their community and throughout their lives.
