Isla Vista Mini Market Event Series
IVCSD is teaming up with IV Farmers Market, UCSB Associated Students, IV Food Cooperative, and Thriftopia to launch our brand new Isla Vista Mini Market series! The Isla Vista Mini Market Series brings together locally sourced food, art, music, and fashion. From fresh produce and live music to sustainable clothing vendors and fix it fairs, each event offers something new to discover while supporting local farmers, makers, businesses, and student organizations.
Fix-it Fairs in Isla Vista give students and community members an opportunity to rethink and repair broken items.
UCSB students, Eva Mills and Molly McGee, hosted the first ever ‘Fix-It Fair’ at the Isla Vista Community Center in 2024 to help the community and reduce waste. Instead of throwing away and replacing broken-yet-fixable equipment, bikes, skateboards, clothes, jewelry, and other items, Fix-It-Fairs offers students and community members the opportunity to fix their belongings, free of charge, with help from local experts. These fairs allow individuals to learn skills to fix their items, while saving money and reducing their environmental footprint.
To learn more about the fairs, check out this article about their first one in The Independent or watch a video here.
Our bi-weekly Mini Markets include:
• One Fix-It Fair booth per event
• One student artist
• One-two local goods vendors
• Two sustainable clothing vendors
• Student organization or non-profit fundraiser
• Tabling opportunities for student groups and local Isla Vista businesses
Our Youtopia, larger markets, include all of these aspects on a larger scale and also give local bands a platofrm to showcase their talent!
