Do You Need a Car in Isla Vista?

If not, leave it home. If so, here's how to find a parking spot

On-street parking in Isla Vista is over 100% capacity, meaning there are more cars than legal spaces to hold them. While having a car this school year might seem like a luxury, it usually ends up being more of a hassle, and with parking enforcement now in Isla Vista, we are encouraging students to leave their cars at home if possible.

We get it, sometimes a car is necessary. If that's you, we highly recommend securing off-street parking, either through your own leasing company or by purchasing a spot near your home. And if you don't truly need your car this year, or even just this Fall quarter, leaving it at home frees up space for neighbors who do.

We know that living without a car can be challenging, but the good news is, Isla Vista is actually an extremely walkable and bikable community, and your local government is here to help. Whether you're leaving your car at home or bringing it with you, we've gathered resources to help you navigate:

  • Grocery shopping without a car
  • Traveling downtown without a car
  • Traveling between school (Isla Vista) and home (LA, SF, SD, etc.) without a car
  • Understanding CA state parking rules so you can avoid tickets
  • Purchasing off-street parking for lease near you (Note: IVCSD does not profit from these listings - we've simply compiled this list as a free resource to help you find available off-street parking)
  • And more!
