Apply for the IVCSD Board of Directors
A vacancy on the Isla Vista Community Services District Board of Directors occurred on December 6, 2024, following the resignation of Micah Littlepage. The District is seeking to appoint a new Director to serve the remainder of the term, ending December 2026, in accordance with California law.
Application Details

Candidates must meet the following qualifications:
- Be a U.S. citizen
- Be 18 years or older upon taking office
- Reside in Isla Vista for the duration of your service
Board Member Responsibilities
- Attend 2-3 hours (on average) per Board meeting, held on the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of each month.
- Review agenda packets in advance and come prepared to discuss and make decisions.
- Stay informed about District business and local issues impacting the community.
- Participate in optional committees based on your interests and availability.
Compensation
Board members receive a $100 stipend for each Board or Committee meeting attended, up to a maximum of $300 per month.
Appointment Process
- Special Meetings: Interviews and the appointment decision will occur at 6 PM on January 30th and/or February 4th. Applicants must be available for both dates, as one or both meetings may be used to complete the process.
- The Board will hear from candidates, ask questions, and vote to appoint someone to fill the seat to serve the remainder of the term until December 2026.
About the Appointment Policy
The appointment process is designed to ensure fairness, transparency, and simplicity:
- All eligible candidates will be considered, , and the board will begin with an informal discussion about each candidate.
- Voting occurs in rounds. In each round, Board members publicly select their preferred candidate.
- If a candidate receives a majority vote, they are appointed.
- If no candidate receives a majority, the Board may remove one or more candidates and vote again.
- The process continues until a candidate is selected by a majority vote.
