Free Curbside Bulky Item Pickup: a Collaboration with IVCSD & The Junkluggers

Items abandoned on the streets of IV during move-out don’t magically disappear. They’re collected by Marborg and taken to the landfill. Instead of abandoning your items, schedule a FREE BULKY ITEM PICKUP with The Junkluggers! We’ll pick up your items from your curb and donate them for you. Pickups will occur from June 12th - June 15th, 2025. Bookings open June 2nd, 2025. Pickup Rules:

  1. Pickups in Isla Vista only.
  2. Maximum of 2 items per household. Ex: 1 couch and 1 table.
  3. All items must be in good condition so they can go to a new home.
  4. No mattresses.
  5. Items must be placed on the curb at the time of your appointment. Junk Luggers will not enter your household.
  6. Appointments are first come first serve. Sign up before slots runout!

Scheduling:

  • Starting June 2nd, call The Junkluggers at 1-800-584-5865.
  • Tell the operator that you are calling to use the “IVCSD item pickup service”.
  • Schedule a pickup anytime between June 12th and June 15th , from 1pm-5pm.
  • Provide The Junkluggers with a primary point of contact who will be home at the time of your pickup.

Day of your appointment:

  • On the day of your appointment, you will receive a call from The Junkluggers when they are 15 minutes from your house.
  • ONLY ONCE YOU RECEIVE THIS CALL: get some help from your housemates to set your bulky items on the curb.

Why do we have to wait to set our items on the curb?

During Isla Vista move-out, MarBorg is contracted to drive trash trucks around IV all day collecting bulky items and other discarded material from the Curbside. If Marborg sees your items on the curb before The Junkluggers does, it will be collected by Marborg and taken to the landfill. Please wait for the call from The Junkluggers that they are 15 minutes away - THEN place your item on the curb to be picked up. This ensures your item is picked up by The Junkluggers to be donated, rather than being picked up by Marborg to be taken to the landfill.
