PART-TIME SUSTAINABILITY SUPPORT STAFF MEMBER

The Sustainability Support Staff Member will work with the General Manager and Public Works & Sustainability Director to execute the IVCSD Board of Directors directions and the provision of Community Services District (CSD) services for the Public Works & Sustainability Department. This position plays a major role in the day to day operations and delivery of CSD Public Works & Sustainability Department services. This position aids and supports the Public Works & Sustainability Director in the execution of the policies set by the elected Board of Directors.

 

Sustainability Support Staff Members will assist the Public Works & Sustainability Director on a variety of tasks and projects ranging from identifying and documenting areas in Isla Vista that need beautifying, participating in hands-on beautification and waste reduction processes, constituent outreach to promote IVCSD Public Works and Sustainability programs and maintaining program organization.  Apply by Friday, June 26th at 9 AM HERE.

WAGE & BENEFIT RANGE:  

Starting at $19.47/hr

15-20 hours/week depending on schedule and availability

 

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Assist in the execution of beautification processes including but not limited to graffiti abatement, trash pick up, glass pick up, and landscaping
  • Propose, develop, and implement projects to contribute to the beautification of Isla Vista within the scope of the CSD
  • Monitor and maintain the community compost piles on a weekly basis through taking temperatures, physically turning the piles, and collecting ingredients using our electric powered tricycle 
  • Assist with community outreach events and activities such as canvassing, workshops, tabling, volunteer events, waste reduction initiatives, etc. 
  • Assist with records management projects, maintenance, and related tasks
  • Communicate with the IVCSD Public Works and Sustainability Department on a regular basis through team meetings and by phone within 24 hours on weekdays.

 

KNOWLEDGE OF:

  • Google Drive for storage; Docs, Sheets, Slides, Forms, and Sites for collaboration
  • Community engagement and/or organizing
  • Social media applications
  • iOS or Android applications
  • Zoom, and/or other virtual meeting platforms
  • Agile/SCRUM/Kanban work systems/methodologies are preferred but not required
  • Some knowledge of local government in California is preferred but not required

 

SKILL/ABILITY TO:

  • Walk or bike around the community using the CSD’s E-bike
  • Represent the District in a professional and courteous manner
  • Use both written and oral forms of communication 
  • Work cooperatively with IVCSD staff, stakeholders, service providers, and the public
  • Clearly communicate with others within and outside of the workplace
  • Work in a collaborative environment
  • Plan, develop, revise, and complete projects in a timely manner
  • Be organized and have good time management skills
  • Problem solve and maintain a solution-oriented mindset to formulate new and innovative solutions.
  • Ability to perform necessary physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs (minimum qualification for this role)

EXPERIENCE & EDUCATION:

Some completed coursework leading to an undergraduate degree or certificate is preferred but not required.
