ROOF FINES + FACTS
Did you know that hanging out on your roof can qualify as a misdemeanor? Subjects on roofs described as unsafe acts/conditions, lack of safety features, illegal assembly, and more can receive a $100 citation and misdemeanor violation.
Many leases in Isla Vista contain a clause that allows the eviction of any tenant found on the roof.
While roofs can typically hold 20 lbs of weight per square foot, they are designed to hold this weight when distributed evenly – not in singular areas. A person sitting or standing on a roof concentrates the weight into one area and can lead to roof damage or collapse.
DON’T
- Don’t sunbathe, climb, or walk along the base of cliff sides
- Don’t go into the ocean prior to 72 hours after a storm
DO
- Be aware of falling rocks or debris
- Check the tides to avoid getting trapped directly against the cliff sides
- Stay at least 1.5x the cliff’s height away from the cliff’s base
