Sweep The Streets - November 2024
CALLING ALL VOLUNTEERS!
We're calling on our community to help us sweep all of Isla Vista's drains and storm gutters before the first winter rains! Unlike other neighborhoods, Isla Vista doesn't have regular street sweeping due to congested parking. Together, we can protect our oceans, keep our streets clean, and make a lasting impact! The first 30 volunteers receive free yerba mates - sign up now!
HOW TO PARTICIPATE:
- Sign up to Volunteer: Sign up to volunteer via our Google Form. Choose from available time slots, or if you're an organization with multiple volunteers, email Jenna Norton at ivbeautiful@islavistacsd.com to coordinate a suitable time for your group.
- Meet us at your chosen time: After you’ve signed up, meet us at the Isla Vista Community Services District Office, located at 970 Embarcadero Del Mar, during your scheduled time. We will supply you with all necessary equipment and get you started! Volunteers must wear closed toed shoes to participate.
WHY STREET SWEEPING?
- Reduces Plastic and Trash in Oceans: By collecting trash from streets, sweeping helps prevent plastics and other waste from entering rivers and oceans, where they can harm marine life.
- Prevents Water Pollution: Cleaning gutters and areas around storm drains removes localized debris, leaves, and pollutants like small litter or grease stains that would otherwise flow into the stormwater system during rain.
