Roadhouse

A street takeover inspired by the infamous skate culture of Isla Vista in the 90s.
Roadhouse draws from a time in Isla Vista when culture operated outside of permission. Backyard skate ramps appeared overnight and band shows were thrown spontaneously. This entertainment zone celebrates punk, hardcore, and counterculture native to Southern California.
Expect high energy band sets, tons of visual interest and IV memorabilia, interactive booths, and spaces returned to an Isla Vista of days gone by.

EXCERPT FROM "A SHORT HISTORY OF SKATEBOARDING IN ISLA VISTA"
Henry Sarria, The Santa Barbara Independent
"The other popular ramp was next to the “Roadhouse” on the corner of Sueno and Camino Corto Streets. This ramp, which lasted from 1995 to 1996, was constantly skated and even ridden with freestyle bikes. Always the spot for a great session, the ramp went from a four-foot mini-ramp section to more substantial section with three or four feet of vertical."
The IVCSD, in partnership with Associated Students, is working to create a new spring festival, Soltopia, for our community to save the live music and the creative spirit of Isla Vista. We're not trying to replace the legacy of Deltopia - but we do believe our community deserves a fun, safe community event.

A note from your Roadhouse zone lead:
"Hi, I'm Maycie! Roadhouse is going to be a collection of California chaos and counterculture. There will be skating, grunge vibes, and punk rock all day. It'll be loud, messy, and very fun. Roadhouse refers to a skate ramp that was active in IV during the 80s and 90s. It was a popular hang out spot where all different members of Isla Vista could come together for a good time. Our goal with Roadhouse is to recreate this community feel.
I'm in four bands in Isla Vista and I put together shows every weekend. It makes me so happy to see my friends get on stage and see the crowd having a great time. I love bringing people together, and am so excited to work behind the scenes of Soltopia."
